University High School Reviews

I think that this is one of the best school within in the Metro area. We enrolled my grandson because his choices were very limited within the Detroit Public school district. The choices were not good at all. Upon meeting the principal and staff and heard what they had to say about education and students, my husband and myself was very inpressed. My grandson didn't want to go because there wasn't alot of extracurricular activities. Now he's aways talking about the great staff and students. I was also impressed when I got to work and the owner's father appoached me and told me to let my grandson know that he had read in the newswpaper about University High and he had made a great choice in choosing to stay there. I have recommended this school to family and friends. Students are very respectful to the neighborhood as well.

Very pleased with the schools program. The school offers lots of support for the students and encourages students to focus on going to college and provides great resources to help determine the best college for their field of study.

My son's first year was interesting because BAMN showed up. However, I chose this school as well as my son because this is a college prep school. It is preparing him for things in life that over the years he is going to need to use! This has been by far a great school and experience for my son. In Tenth grade he has already started preparing himself for college. The kids at this school don't care about looks and popularity etc. They are truly there to learn and it shows! Thumbs up!

The thing I like most are the small interpersonal relationships between the students and the teachers and also the strong focus on academic achievement, versus who is the most popular person on the team or in a club. It's not one of those schools where your child gets lost in the shuffle, when you attend parent teacher conference, the teachers are able to specifically tell you about your child and that's a good thing because by now we know our children/teenagers and we know exactly when the teachers are on point so it's not a guessing game and also the students and parents are encouraged to stay in tune through the snap grades system.

University High focuses on relationships between students and teachers, and allows a trust to build between the two - which advances the students desire to learn. They also graduated 100% of their first class - and that is outstanding!!!

This school is excellent because a vision exists that is student focused. Main focuses on academic progress, leadership and character is a recipe to encourage a willing student to go beyond their possibilities. This has been my personal experience as a parent and this is only our second year.

I am currently enrolled at UHS and I beg to differ on one of tose comments. UHS does have activities afterschool and during school. We just chose a class out of EIGHTEEN choices including Home Economics which shows you how to live on your own and even cook. After school they have programs like DECA where eventually you travel to out of state conventions. The students are well disciplined by the school and entertaining. I reccomend this school to any kid, It's a great school.

As a member of the community I was originally skeptical about University High School. However, the students have been polite and the staff seems to really care. I am happy to say that UHS has been a positive asset to our neighborhood.

My son has just entered his senior year at UHS and he has had such incredible experiences. I watched him mature beyond my wildest dreams from his interaction with professionals throughout the automotive industry. He has his choice of colleges, mainly thanks to to great teachers and caring staff at the school. I recommend this to my friends with middle school students, because at UHS they come out really well prepared for college.

When I first enrolled my child in this school, the principal mentioned so many activities that the school had. During the school year, this school offered no activities, except a basketball team that was not even a real team. This school is also very inconvenient. They decided to change the dress code at the last minute. The lunches are also unsatisfactory. Do not enroll your child in this school. I'm taking my child out of this school.
